Why Inez Milholland?
Inez Milholland was a labor lawyer and civil rights activist who famously led the 1913 suffrage parade in Washington, D.C., atop a white horse, draped in a crown and a flowing cape. She literally gave her life for the cause, collapsing during a grueling cross-country speaking tour. Owning this piece is a tribute to a “Martyr for Equality”—a woman whose final words, “Mr. President, how long must women wait for liberty?”, became the rallying cry that finally secured the vote.
