A Bronze Tribute to an Entrepreneurial Legacy
Stew Leonard Sr. was honored with the unveiling of a life-size bronze statue at the company’s Norwalk, Connecticut store. The ceremony brought together members of the Leonard family, longtime employees, local officials, and members of the community.
The portrait commemorates the founder who expanded a family dairy operation into a destination grocery business known for its theatrical atmosphere, customer-focused culture, and strong connection with families and children.
The completed bronze weighs approximately 300 pounds. The sculptural details were developed to make the portrait personal and recognizable, including a carefully recreated belt connected to the Leonard family’s own history.
For the Leonard family, the project also fulfilled a wish inspired by the bronze statue of Walt Disney that Stew Leonard Sr. admired during family trips to Disney parks.

Why This Statue Matters
Corporate portrait statues can do more than commemorate a founder. They can give employees and customers a physical point of connection with the values, history, and personality that shaped an organization.
In this project, the bronze portrait links personal family memory with public business history. Its setting allows the sculpture to function simultaneously as a memorial, a brand landmark, and a visible expression of continuity.
Planning a Founder or Corporate Legacy Statue
What references are needed for a founder’s portrait statue?
Clear photographs from multiple angles, clothing references, personal objects, biographical information, and input from family or close associates are especially valuable.
Can personal items be recreated in the sculpture?
Yes. Belts, watches, tools, jewelry, insignia, clothing details, and other recognizable objects can strengthen authenticity when good references are available.
How is the likeness reviewed?
The portrait is typically reviewed at defined milestones. A small approval group and consolidated feedback help maintain accuracy and prevent conflicting revisions.
Can a bronze statue be installed indoors?
Yes. Bronze works well indoors and outdoors, provided the base, anchoring, floor loading, circulation, and long-term care requirements are addressed.
How can a company use a founder statue?
A founder statue may serve as a lobby centerpiece, campus landmark, visitor experience, employee recognition site, historical display, or focal point for company anniversaries.
