Honoring Metropolitan Orestes P. Chornock

Metropolitan Orestes P. Chornock was the first bishop of the diocese and the founder of Christ the Saviour Seminary. His leadership helped establish an institution that remains an important part of the church community.

To recognize that legacy, Statues.com created a life-size memorial statue. The sculpture presents the Metropolitan in his religious vestments and provides a lasting tribute to his service.

Today, the statue stands inside the seminary, where students, clergy, and visitors can see it. As a result, the memorial connects the institution's history with the people who continue its work.

A Closer Look at the Memorial Statue

The details of a commemorative sculpture are especially important when portraying a historical religious figure. In this project, the vestments, proportions, and overall presentation help communicate the Metropolitan's identity and position.

In addition, the finished statue includes a commemorative plaque. Together, these elements make the sculpture both a portrait and a historical memorial.

Creating a Lasting Religious Memorial

A custom memorial statue must represent its subject with care and respect. For that reason, portrait likeness, clothing, posture, and proportions all matter during the sculpting process.

The Metropolitan Orestes Chornock statue was created to honor a person whose contribution to the seminary remains significant. Rather than serving only as decoration, the completed sculpture has a clear commemorative purpose.

Seeing the statue installed at Christ the Saviour Seminary was especially rewarding. After the work involved in creating the piece, it was meaningful to see it displayed in its intended setting.

Each memorial project carries a responsibility to the people and institution it represents. Consequently, we value both the craftsmanship of the finished statue and the trust placed in us to create it.

Visiting Christ the Saviour Seminary in Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Our visit to Johnstown gave us the opportunity to see the seminary and spend time with members of its community. We were also able to see the completed sculpture in its permanent surroundings.

Beyond the statue itself, the buildings and grounds made an impression on us. The setting helped us appreciate the connection between the seminary's history and the memorial we had created.

Most importantly, the visit allowed us to meet people who care deeply about the institution and its future. Those conversations added a personal meaning to the project.

The Warm Hospitality We Received in Johnstown

For Victoria and me, the hospitality we received was one of the most memorable parts of the entire project. Everyone we met treated us with kindness and genuine warmth.

From the beginning, we felt welcome and comfortable. We enjoyed our conversations, shared stories, and spent time with people who were sincerely interested in the completed statue.

Although we traveled to Johnstown because of the sculpture, the visit became much more than a professional occasion. The personal connections and thoughtful welcome meant a great deal to both of us.

We traveled to Johnstown to see our sculpture. However, what we remember just as clearly is the kindness of the people who welcomed us.

Their hospitality made our time at the seminary especially meaningful. Even after returning home, we continued to appreciate the warmth and generosity shown to us.
