Honoring Coach Phil Albert at Towson University
A 22-inch bronze portrait commemorating the coach who helped establish the foundation of Towson Tigers football.
Created with input from Coach Albert’s family and friends of Towson University, this bronze bust gives his influence on the football program a permanent presence at the stadium.
Phil Albert served as Towson’s head football coach for 20 seasons, from 1972 through 1991. He recorded 117 victories, the most in program history, and guided the Tigers from a 1-9 season in 1972 to an undefeated 10-0 campaign in 1974.
The portrait commission required both recognizable likeness and an expression appropriate to the coach remembered by players, colleagues and family. At 22 inches tall, the bust has enough scale to communicate facial character clearly while remaining suited to its concourse setting.
The stadium placement connects Coach Albert’s portrait with the program he shaped, allowing new generations of Towson players and supporters to encounter his story.
Albert was inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994. During his coaching career, he led players who earned national recognition and also served Towson as a professor, extending his contribution beyond the football field.
