Honoring the Voice Behind Historic Sports Moments
This commissioned portrait bust recognizes sportscaster Jim Gray and the reporting career that connected major athletes, defining competitions and worldwide audiences for more than four decades.
Created for the occasion of Jim Gray’s induction into the California Sports Hall of Fame, the sculpture was developed entirely from photographic references rather than live sittings.
Working from photographs requires careful comparison across angles, expressions and lighting conditions. The Statues.com Art Team studied the available images to translate Gray’s recognizable features into a dimensional portrait with an appropriate commemorative presence.
The presentation connected sculpture with a career spent documenting major events and interviewing influential figures across the sports world. Christian Okoye, founder of the California Sports Hall of Fame, helped make the tribute possible through the organization’s commitment to preserving the achievements of athletes, coaches and contributors.
Jim Gray’s positive response to the finished likeness provided meaningful confirmation that the portrait communicated both identity and presence.
