Stan Morrison Portrait
A life-size portrait study developed through careful photographic comparison and three-dimensional clay modeling.
A successful portrait must remain recognizable from more than one viewpoint. The Stan Morrison project demonstrates how multiple photographic references are translated into a unified sculptural likeness.
The project image documents the clay modeling stage, where the artist establishes facial structure, proportion, expression and the transition between features. Photographs positioned behind the sculpture provide continuous visual reference while the portrait is reviewed from changing angles.
Working at life size gives the portrait a direct human presence. It also requires restraint: small changes to the eyes, mouth, cheek structure or silhouette can significantly affect whether the subject feels recognizable.
