The Rod Strickland Award Statue
This 14-inch bronze award statue honors Rod Strickland through a recognizable full-figure portrait developed with guidance from the foundation.
The sculpture was designed to capture Strickland’s likeness and pose in a format suited to formal recognition. At this scale, facial character, stance and silhouette must remain visually clear while the composition retains the presence expected of an award bearing an individual’s name.
Strickland’s career connects professional basketball, coaching and youth development. A Bronx native and former NBA player, he currently serves as head coach of the Long Island University men’s basketball program. The award also reflects the work of Young Athletes, the nonprofit he helped establish to support disadvantaged children in New York.
By presenting the honoree as a dimensional figure rather than a generic trophy, the award connects achievement with the person, values and community it represents.
Custom sculptural awards can give foundations, athletic programs and institutions a distinctive symbol for lifetime achievement, leadership and community impact. The most effective designs are developed around the identity of the honor and the story recipients are being invited to continue.
Current coaching information verified through Long Island University Athletics.
