Why Mary McLeod Bethune?
Mary McLeod Bethune was a visionary educator who founded what is now Bethune-Cookman University and served as an advisor to five U.S. presidents. She dedicated her life to ensuring that African American girls had access to education and a seat at the table of power. Owning this piece is a tribute to the “First Lady of the Struggle”, a woman who believed that “love, hope, and faith” could transform a nation.
